Food Access

The Newburgh Farmers’ Market accepts SNAP, Double Up Food Bucks, Senior & WIC FNMP, and FreshConnect benefits on all eligible products.
Our own Greens4Greens program doubles the purchasing power of benefits users!

Greens4Greens

Greens4Greens is a food benefit incentive program, started in 2016, that creates greater food access for shoppers at the Beacon Farmers’ Market, and the Newburgh Farmers’ Market. Eligible state funded food benefits are matched dollar for dollar through Greens4Greens, making the farmers’ market more accessible to a wider base of consumers. The program has been completely community funded through contributions made by local businesses as well as the annual 'Soup4Greens' event.

SNAP and Double Up Food Bucks

SNAP provides nutrition benefits to supplement the food budget of families so they can purchase healthy food and move towards self-sufficiency.

How the SNAP token system works: customers stop by the market manager’s tent during market hours, and swipe SNAP card for whatever amount they choose. The market manager will provide them with $1 tokens for their chosen amount, and they can spend the tokens on SNAP eligible groceries at any vendor.

Year round, Double Up Food Bucks doubles your purchasing power by matching your SNAP benefits dollar for dollar, up to $20 per day. Double Up Food Bucks can be used to purchase fruits and vegetable leaving your SNAP dollars to go towards other items such as bread, cheese, or honey!

SNAP Benefits Can Be Used To Purchase: all fruits and vegetables, meat, fish, poultry, cheese and all dairy products, eggs, baked goods, processed foods, maple syrup/honey/cider/juices, coffee that is whole bean or ground (not fresh brewed), herbs, and seeds and plants that produce food (like tomato plants)

Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program

The Farmers' Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) provides checks through the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program, and to seniors through the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) for the purchase of locally grown, fresh fruits and vegetables.

FMNP checks can be brought directly to produce vendors where they will receive a $5 Greens4Greens coupon for every $5 FMNP check to maximize their benefits! The FMNP program runs from June through November.

FMNP Benefits Can Be Used to Purchase: local fruits, vegetables, and herbs
